If you’re looking to safeguard your little ones from injuries and falls, then you will want to install a mulch playground surface. What one should you go for?
The options include rubber mulch and wood bark, we identify some of the key factors between both of them. Read up on the pros and cons of both surfaces and also our verdict.
We explain why we prefer rubber bark and why we decide to install that over wooden chippings, there are a number of reasons, from safety all the way to installation.
The famous question- which is better, rubber mulch or wood? We are advocates of rubberised shred, hence why we choose to install that surface over wood. The bonded mulch is made up of recycled tyres, meaning that it is a great feat for the environment.
That’s not the only reason we opt for bonded bark though, we deem it as the safest surface and it is also more robust throughout all weather. Wooden bark can rot and even be compromised by various factors.
We have researched, studied and even experienced both of these surfaces and in this article we delve into both surfaces. If you want a straight-up battle of the two surfaces then read on as we compare them both with their strengths and weaknesses.
If you are looking into potentially installing wooden bark landscape- then you should be aware that it can be difficult in the early stages.
We’ll go into the ‘ins and outs’ of the two types of surface shortly but simply taking a look at the installation, wooden bark tends to make its way across the area. It can end up in parts of the playground you didn’t want it to. Whereas the rubber that we use is bonded and compact, making it easy to install. We can make sure that it remains aesthetically pleasing as well as ensure beautiful designs on the surface.
Wooden bark can be hard to spread evenly. We prefer bonded rubber as we provide premium mulch that is less messy.
When diving into the benefits and disadvantages of both rubber and wooden chippings, we were heavily in favour of rubber. There’s a vast amount of reasons for this, from the installation process all the way down to having the surface years later.
We leave no stone unturned, meaning that we like to study all surfaces, in every aspect. We want to know all about the installation process, the benefits of use and how it holds up to its purpose and we also check out the how durable and long lasting each surface can be.
Rubberised mulch trumps wood in almost every area, although wood is more natural than rubber. Our bonded mulch is recycled tyres. Making use of those old tyres that would otherwise not be used whatsoever. Environmentally it is great but bonded rubber is better for many other reasons.
It seems as though bonded mulch has more benefits than wooden bark. Although wood is cheaper, it needs to be constantly replaced year after year. Rubberised mulch also looks more elegant and can be incorporated far easier. You can select brown, green or a mix of both for a natural appearance.
